Streetwise ("we", "us", "our") operates the Streetwise mobile application. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our app.

Data We Collect

Location Data

We collect your precise location while using navigation features. This is essential to provide safe walking routes and nearby incident information. Location data is not collected when the app is closed.

Account Information

When you create an account, we collect your email address, display name, and a unique user identifier. If you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive the information you authorize those providers to share.

Emergency Contacts

You may choose to enter phone numbers for emergency contacts. These are manually entered by you and we do not access your device's address book.

Profile Photo

You may upload a profile picture from your photo library. This image is stored securely and associated with your account.

Audio

With your permission, the app uses your microphone during AI safety companion calls. Audio is processed in real time and is not stored or recorded.

Search History

We store your recent destination searches locally to provide quick access to frequently visited places.

User-Generated Content

When you report an incident, we collect the incident type and GPS coordinates. Reports are associated with your account and processed through our trust and credibility system.

Usage & Diagnostics

We collect AI call duration data, crash reports, and performance diagnostics to improve the app experience.

How We Use Your Data

Provide safe pedestrian navigation routes
Display nearby safety incidents on the map
Power the AI safety companion feature
Send location sharing links to your emergency contacts
Improve route safety scoring algorithms
Diagnose and fix technical issues

Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services to operate Streetwise:

Supabase — authentication and database hosting
Mapbox — map rendering and geocoding
Google Routes API — route computation
LiveKit — real-time audio for AI companion calls
Google Sign-In & Apple Sign-In — third-party authentication
Vercel Analytics — privacy-friendly website analytics

Each service processes data in accordance with their own privacy policies. We only share the minimum data required for each service to function.

What We Don't Do

We do not sell your personal data to anyone
We do not use your data for advertising
We do not track you across other apps or websites
We do not share your data with data brokers

Your Rights

Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), you have the right to:

Access your personal data
Delete your account and associated data (available in-app under Profile settings)
Export your data in a portable format
Rectify inaccurate information
Object to certain data processing activities

Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we remove your personal data within 30 days. Some anonymized, aggregated data (such as incident statistics) may be retained for safety analysis purposes.

Children's Privacy

Streetwise is not intended for children under the age of 12. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes through the app or by email. Your continued use of Streetwise after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
